Saturday

Before we begin: I would avoid the Starbucks on Santa Monica and Fairfax at all costs - yes, even your soy coffee and steroid-pastry withdrawal.

Thursday night the Three Wise Men gifted me with sight.

The Three Wise Men as portrayed by Jim Beam, Jack Daniels, and Johnnie Walker.

No, don't take it that way. What I mean is this: a good friend of mine, her boyfriend, and I took the Metro over to La Cita for A-Trak. When the line extended to the crosswalk we remembered that there would be many more Thursday nights with many more great DJs in our lifetimes, and took a rain check. At the Power House in Hollywood I loosened up my head just enough to talk, and finally voicing all my thoughts and feelings liberated me of them. I'm embarrassed to admit I am reading a self-help called It's Called a Breakup Because It's Broken by Greg Behrendt and Amiira Ruotola-Behrendt...and I am even more embarrassed to admit that it's, well, helpful.

He and I are actually going forward with the art project we began. It is a long distance collaboration rooted in photographic double exposures. Like us, it will transform with our experiences. This is our only form of communication henceforth (I could not find anything about artistic collaborations in the self-help book, so I'm going to see if my judgment failed me here or not).

A strange thing is happening to me. As my head clears I can already begin to look back, and instead of languishing upon what was lost I drift in fond reverie. The songs we used to listen to together I listen to alone, and in my mind there is a window upon a memory that is becoming more and more just a beautiful fable in a child's picture book.

Tonight is DANCEISM downtown and Yours Truly will be photographing the event.

Sunset Junction tomorrow to see The Black Keys and !!!. (I thought they'd never play another show in LA?)
