It's been an emotionally tumultuous week, and next week's writing will reflect that, I think. I've decided to continue writing small vignettes, and upon writing 125 of them, I will edit them down to 100, and that will be my book. I am excited.
And oh boy, I've got so much fun music to tell you about today!
I've got an eclectic collection of sounds for your ear holes on this haphazard Friday, which includes your staple dance track and even a band from Berlin! So check it out: the meanest boys, Jen Gloeckner, Sunbeams At Lightspeeds, jacke, Underground Hip Hop, RIVER GYPSIES, Collisions, Do It At Home, Big Digits, and winner louise.
And if you're not quite sure what do with your weekend, I've got a couple suggestions! (Hint: You need a bike for one of them!)
So Marc Rémillard emailed me a while ago with some tracks to listen to, and he patiently waited for me to get back to him. Marc is too cute to break a promise to!
Marc is a DJ based in Canada, who says that his music is "all about a crazy dream." As he endearingly explains, "Life is sometimes strange. We have to make choices about what we're gonna do for our entire life. We also have dreams. I am currently making my studies in Cinema, but really.... There's one thing I must do in my life to be really satisfied : Live out of my music, and travel the world to do shows. This is my crazy dream, this is what our parents never understood, and this is one of the things in which I believe in the most in my life."
I am going to bookmark this post, and whenever I am feeling lost, I am going to return to Marc's words for inspiration. Our world is made beautiful by dreamers who never stopped believing, and with Marc's determination and discipline, I don't doubt that his dreams will come true. Trust me, I've seen it happen.
Marc is also part of a DJ duo called Do It At Home with his friend Ahllex.
Marc's "Feeling Fresh" is a flying dream, which we enter through a soft focus beat. It crashes into our subconscious and keeps us "fresh" with whimsical accents that ascend into a steadily rolling sky that I imagine is painted with the colors of twilight. We soar over a glowing landscape toward a pulsating horizon. It's a dream we never want to wake up from. If you're feeling dreamy - or lovely - catch Marc's original track and its accompanying remixes over at his MySpace. Rumor has it that an EP will be available very soon!
Favorite Daft Punk song?
Oh it's a cheap question Liz. How can a Daft Punk song be better than another? [Liz's note: I guess I'd have to agree!] I'll say the Stardust project (Music Sounds Better With You) even if it's not officially a DP song, cause it makes me feel however I'd want to feel!
What's your gear? Or you can plead the "tricks of the trade."
Well I'll give out some, I got a keyboard from Korg, very useful connected to my computer with MIDI signal, and a Pad from Korg, poweful for effects and drums, with its XY touch pad.
I am not using any software that most people uses. Not Ableton Live, not Reason, not FLStudio etc. It's my secret ;)
I also have a studio with Ahllex, were we can go record vocals and guitar (100w VOX amp and a Mesa Boogie Amp kit) and work on our tracks on his laptop.
Where can people find you?
People can find me in front of my korg stuff, at Quebec's club named Dagobert (Friday or Saturday), or at some electro shows such as Le CastleVania this next Saturday at Montreal :)
What's your going out ritual? Picture John Travolta a la Saturday Night Fever!
My going out ritual? Listening to some Daft Punk in Ahllex's car before entering the club, and when we are doing DJ sets together at some events, we take a walk outside, taking it easy, and then a powerful Chivers handshake (See Mr Oizo's movie "Steak") before making people bounce for the night.
Something about you that most people don't know.
Someting most people don't know about me... I'm a tornado chaser, member of the crew QuebecVortex. We go each spring in the US great plains to get some of those crazy twisters on tape. No need to tell you that it inspires me.
Not wanting to leave us empty-handed, Marc sent along a Do It At Home Justice medley. I've heard a lot of Justice remixes, but never quite like this, with, as Marc explains, "the messed up DANCE letters punching into each other followed by some crazy synths."

Really nice interview. I enjoyed it.
Now, let's all do the handshake, and rock.
