Wednesday weekend roundup!: The Rose Room, BIZZART, and some bike riding stuff

Finally! At last!

So Friday the DiSCO VAMPS repped on the Jesus Christ Ride through east Los Angeles. Naomi and I were two of only a handful of ladies on a predominately male ride. I'm not a very good judge of crowds, but at our largest, we were probably twenty-five or thirty deep. The ride was so named for all of its mishaps (Flat, tangled bikes, fallen rider, dropped knife, rampaging undercover cop), which caused one to utter exasperatedly, "Jeeeeezus KRISTE!" As the ride progressed, we dwindled down to ten or so, with me and Naomi the only two women left. Our most sublime moment was resting on the bridge over the LA River in almost total darkness (The streetlights were out for some reason). One lad lobbed an empty forty over and the thrill of its shatter was primal.

And speaking of the DiSCO VAMPS....

(Uh-huh. Yup. You jealous.)

Saturday was an Insemillation with The Rose Room. The interactive installation piece comprised of video mixing, a DJ, bands, headphones, dancing, and rose petals spread decadently all about the floor of the room. One of Megyn's videos was part of the mix! The rose petals were understandably irresistible and everyone had a lie in them and took turns tossing them joyfully up in the air. Big Lovin' Panda and The Pleasure Circus Band played, and it was lovely to be among friends and artists.

By the way, if you would like to be part of the next Insemillation, check this out!

Also, we are providing video content for a live band set on Friday, March 20th at the Unknown Theater. The theme is nostalgic television: old cartoon shows, old commercials -- think late eighties or early nineties and if you want to go for bonus points, then theme your videos with one of the following tones:

1) Calm, Relaxed, Minimal, Euphoric
2) Dark, Chaotic, Tumultuous
3) Stimulating, Colorful, or Flashing/rhythmic
4) Joyous, Triumphant, Climactic

The videos must be at least 7 min in length (you can loop footage), but they do not need to be linear or tell a story (though that would be bonus points as well). We will be switching between the videos (using a component switchbox) to correspond to the changes in the band's set. We will screen the full length of any submission that is particularly well put together during the set up/breakdown time between bands.

Keep us in mind, and let us know a.s.a.p. if you'd like to participate.

Rose Room ended early, and although I was invited out, I decided to tuck in early. I woke up Sunday morning with a craving for IHOP (One of my favorite fine dining establishments), but to compensate for the entire box of Girl Scout cookies I ravished on Saturday, I searched for the farthest restaurant. I hopped on my bike and headed west on Venice for Marina Del Ray. Upon my arrival, I ate everything on the menu, read from my latest issue of Wired, and then decided to ride the extra two miles to Venice Beach. Free of the burden of parking, I escorted by bike out onto the sand, took a seat and let the beginnings of the digestive process rumble through me as I did a little bit of writing. It was positively divine.

Who knew I had a knack for sculpture? (And the maturity of a fifteen year old boy?)

Monday night I went out to Pehrspace to catch BIZZART's record release party. It was so good to see Art and his painted face! He's one of the most magical people I know! The night was a voyage of avant garde beats and sounds, the most blissful of all being OORUTAICHI of Japan's The Boredoms. I don't know if I can describe the experience properly...it was whimsical, childlike, primal, and absolutely sublime. You'd have to see it to believe it.
