Thursday: Have yourself a HappyLand Christmas

Tonight I went to a meeting for one of my Christmas gifts and I am so excited! The Help-Portrait event is going to be a wonderful experience. I hope my brother enjoys the gift!

I am also going to volunteer at One Voice with my kid sister. So not only will I get to help those in need, I will also get to spend some time with her, and that's the best gift we could give each other.

For my other sister, I am looking into volunteering at an animal shelter. I would love the chance to be around animals. I love cats and dogs, but due to economical and residential restrictions, I cannot have one of my own. I think it's important to be around animals because they have a special energy, and they teach us about kindness, patience, and love.

I know I will help with Food Not Bombs one Sunday, and for my dad, I think I will do an extra shift at Bikerowave, but I don't know what to do for my mom yet. I think it should somehow involve art and children...maybe something to do with theater. Any suggestions?

I am also still looking for something LGTBQ related to do in December, so let me know if you've got something!

I know that times are tough for everyone right now, and Christmas can be particularly burdening beneath the push to buy buy buy, but just remember that the most valuable gift you have to give is your time...and to some people, your time can mean a lot. Whether it's volunteer work or just taking an afternoon with your family or a close friend, I think that if we all concentrate on each other, this year will prove to be the most bountiful.

Have yourself a HappyLand Christmas!

After all, all I want for Christmas is you!

Yes, I recognize the irony in posting the above video, but come on, suspend your cynicism and give in to one of the best songs ever created.

And no, my love for Mariah Carey is not intended ironically.
