As Box explains,
"Quite simply, the Safe Streets Bill aims to provide local governments with an additional tool to keep the speeds traveled on local roads at a safe level for drivers, pedestrians, and communities as a whole. The legislation balances the ability of drivers to safely drive on city streets at a reasonable speed with the needs of bicyclists, residents and pedestrians to be able to access those same streets without an undue risk of a collision, thus enhancing both community safety and traffic flow."
You may think that five or ten miles does not make a difference, but it can mean the difference between life and death to a pedestrian, cyclist, or even a driver in an accident.
Box will be traveling to Sacramento on Monday the 11th to testify in support of the bill and one of the easiest ways you can make your voice heard is to write a letter to present as part of his argument. Include who you are, where you live, and your experiences with speeding traffic on the streets of your community. These are due soon! Start typing! If you need more information, please refer to Box's post regarding, and thank you so much! Empower yourself!
In other activist news, the LGBTQ community desperately wants to know what gives? In his first one hundred days, President Obama has said a lot of things, but in the wake of Iowa's, Vermont's, and Maine's recent legalization of same sex marriage (Shame on you California!), Barry has remained mum. It's time for some real change.
Oh an P.S., don't buy Rock Star Energy Drinks...it's founded by Michael Savage, the brazenly homophobic, sexist, and intolerant host of a conservative radio show. Some of his quotations are simply ugly.
But all right, all right, you sat through my soap box, you nodded your head politely, and maybe, hopefully, you were moved to some action. To reward you I have some fun music to check out!
So this is what I've got on my MySpace player right now: MikIX the Cat, COLD BLANK, Jeannette and Richard (With a charming Velvet Underground cover), CLASSIC US (Who I've posted about in the past), Shark! Shark!, Ghostape, The BOX Opera, Silhoutte Lover, Vadum Rankin (Fun utilization of found sounds), and BEYOND THE WIZARD'S SLEEVE (Who you might also know as Erol Alkan).
I wonder what Erol Alkan would think of this YouTube sample mixer? (Try it, you will be amazed!)
And now I'm out for the weekend and ready to cause some mischief! Need plans? Look no farther!
Be safe! Love well!

We really need more protection for biker riders (and pedestrians). On a Tuesday afternoon ride I almost got nailed by a driver who then proceeded to act as if it was MY fault that I almostgot hit. When I drive I am so protective of riders, we need better driver's education and tougher laws to protect riders (like in The Netherlands). As for Barack, remember that politicians promise a lot of things to get elected - then do not deliver on their promises. For example, an environmental group plans to sue the Barack administration for failing to provide (as promised) protection to Polar bears. C'est la politique! (pardon my Frenc).
OK, make that 2 near hits. I just came back from a short, early morning ride. I was going down a hill; fast but not at neck breaking speed. I had my headlight on blink mode, for maximum visibility. then, as I near the bottom of the hill, some fool turned left right in front of me. I had to aplly the rear brakes hard to skid the bike (fortunately I was able to get out of the left pedal, so the bike and I remained upright). The worst part of it, is that as he began to make his left turn, we both made eye contact and iI saw him and he saw me, and he still went ahead with the turn. I am not a novice rider, I have over 4,000 miles on my bike's speedo since changing the batteries a little over 3 years ago. I see more and more incidents of car drivers totally disregarding the safety of riders (and pedestrians, look at all the recent pedestrian deaths in L.A.). I think that as riders we need to get involved in more political activism on behalf of more protection for riders and pedestrians.
Well, did you write your letter then?!
